2023 Ford Lightning: The Best Electric Vehicle You'll Buy

Most people buy an electric vehicle (EV) because they want to save money at the gas station. And the reason most people buy a truck is for its overwhelming power. So, for the 2022 model year, Ford decided to combine the best of both worlds and bring out the new Ford F-150 Lightning. This all-electric pickup truck uses a traditional F-150 styling and adds a lot of impressive hardware in the cabin and under the hood to make for one of the best rides.

What's New for 2023?

No major changes are made to the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning. The only real change is the price. With a $12,000 increase to the entry-level Pro model and price hikes on other trims, this EV is now more expensive.

Performance

Powering this electric pickup are two engine options. The base powertrain uses two electric motors and all-wheel drive to produce 452 horsepower and gets 230 miles of range. While the other powertrain uses the same setup to output 580 horsepower and gets 320 miles of range.

In terms of hauling and towing, the Lightning can carry around 2,000 pounds and tow up to 10,000 pounds.

Technology

Coming standard in most Ford Lightning models is a 12.0- inch touchscreen with Ford's latest Sync 4 software, though a 15-inch model is standard in the Lariat and Platinum. Other features include in-dash navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and eight 120-volt household-style electrical power outlets.

Safety

Every Ford truck is designed with safety in mind, and the Lightning is no exception. Standard on all models is automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. Purchase higher trims, and drivers will find a 360-degree camera and evasive steering assist.
